Now if you have the pesky white flakes called dandruff and you are like me who does not like dandruff, but you want a cheap and easy at home remedy, to get rid of it.  Then look no further than Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV).natural hair

The benefits of using ACV in the natural hair community has been screamed from the rooftops for years. I can’t say that I can blame them.  Apple Cider Vinegar is awesome, it’s the one the many musts that is always in our home. Purely due to the fact that you can use it for so much in your hair care as well in the kitchen.

Dandruff Remover: Apple Cider Vinegar & Its Benefits

But if you are a little new to the benefits of ACV, then let me quickly explain. ACV is a highly acidic substance which has a high acidity of Malic Acid and enzymes that kill “Bottle Bacillus”.

Bottle Bacillus is a the seed/baby of Malassezia the bacteria that causes dandruff and itchy scalp, as well as  thinning  hair and baldness (clearly I am not a fan of this one…). This bacteria forms scales and dry crust and ACV kills the bacteria and stimulates oil glands.

Now these are not the only benefits of apple cider vinegar. In, fact apple cider can be used to close the hair cuticle of your natural hair which actually gives you smoother looking hair and less frizz.

How To Make Your Own Apple Cider Vinegar Home Remedy

Okay so now that we know that apple cider vinegar kills all those baddies which cause dandruff. I am sure you are wondering how do I mix it together, so that I can get rid of all this itchy awkward powdery stuff that is on my scalp and falling onto my clothes at the most ill timed moments.

So let’s get to it.

Now Apple Cider Vinegar is considered to be an acid on the pH scale, in fact it is #3 on the pH scale of 0-14. The fact that it is at #3 means that it is a very strong acid, compared to our natural hair which falls between 4.5 -6.

Now you may be thinking that is not too bad. Well you have to remember that acid is very strong and if strong enough can burn through stuff, so this is why it needs to be mixed with something. And if your Apple Cider Vinegar mixture is too strong it can actually dry out your natural hair.

So here is the thing, for the apple cider vinegar to not dry out your natural hair, the best thing is to get it’s pH to as close to our hair’s pH as much as possible. To make sure that you banish the dandruff from your natural hair and scalp.

Apple Cider Vinegar Dandruff Recipe

1 cup

Apple cider vinegar

pH Strip testersnatural hair

Filtered water

Spray bottle

1 Glass

1 Teaspoon

You will need to measure out 2 cups of water and place them in your glass and then add 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar. This ratio is enough for your mixture to then be at a pHof 4 as the images below show. If you want to test to make sure then grab a pH strip and add it to your mixture, let it in for a few minutes. Then take it out and check the pH.

So as you can see, once you have mixed the water and the Apple Cider Vinegar together, you will have a mixture that is close enough to our natural hair in pH.  To be able to remove and banish the dandruff.

The next thing you need to do is add it to your spray bottle and apply to get rid of your pesky dandruff.
